A Ghoulishly Green Homemade Guacamole from Little Hearts Cookery Club
This Troll Snot Dip is a silly, squishy, gloriously green homemade guacamole, perfect for little chefs who love getting creative in the kitchen.
Inspired by mischievous woodland trolls, muddy adventures, magical forests, and all things wonderfully yucky, this recipe transforms simple ingredients into a delicious green dip that looks just like something a cheeky troll might have left behind!
Don’t let the name put you off! Underneath all that troll snot is creamy avocado, juicy lime, fresh tomato, and a sprinkle of herbs, making this a fun and simple recipe for little chefs to make together.
Perfect for dipping vegetable sticks, crackers, tortilla chips, or simply scooping up with a spoon (because sometimes troll rules apply!), this is a wonderfully playful way to introduce children to fresh ingredients and homemade dips.

Ingredients
- 2 ripe avocados
- ½ small tomato, finely chopped
- ½ small lime, juiced
- A small handful of fresh coriander, finely chopped (optional)
- A tiny pinch of salt (optional)
- A little black pepper (optional)
- Vegetable sticks, crackers, tortilla chips, or anything else you fancy for dipping
Method
1. Scoop Out the Avocado
With the help of a grown-up, The grown up carefully cuts the avocados in half and remove the stones.
Scoop the soft green avocado into a bowl.
This is where the troll magic begins!
2. Squish the Avocado
Using a fork, gently mash the avocado until it becomes soft and creamy.
It doesn’t need to be perfectly smooth. A few little lumps make it look even more like proper troll snot!
3. Add the Troll Ingredients
Add the chopped tomato, lime juice, and coriander if using.
Give everything a good stir.
Watch as all the ingredients squish and swirl together into a wonderfully green troll dip.
4. Give It a Taste
Have a little taste.
Would your troll like it more tangy?
Maybe your troll needs a tiny sprinkle of salt?
There are no wrong answers every troll has their own favourite snot recipe!
5. Serve Your Troll Snot
Spoon your guacamole into a little bowl and surround it with your favourite dippers.
For extra troll magic, you could place the bowl in the middle of the table and give everyone their own little dipping adventure.
Cooking with Heart
This little dip offers much more than a bowl of guacamole. It invites children to:
- Explore colour, texture, smell, and taste
- Practise scooping, mashing, measuring, and stirring skills
- Discover how simple ingredients can be combined to create something delicious
- Build confidence and independence in the kitchen
- Use their imagination during cooking
- Explore new foods in a playful and pressure-free way
- Enjoy laughter, connection, and a little bit of silliness together
Sometimes cooking doesn’t need to be perfect.
Sometimes it just needs to be fun, messy, and full of giggles.
Little Hearts Tip
Every little chef knows that the best recipes need a good story.
Before making your Troll Snot Dip, why not imagine that you’ve discovered a secret troll cave hidden deep inside an enchanted forest?
What do you think lives inside?
Is the troll friendly?
Does it have enormous feet?
Does it collect shiny stones?
And most importantly…
What does its favourite food look like?
Perhaps your little chef could invent their very own troll.
Give your troll a name.
What colour is it?
What does it sound like?
What does it like to eat?
Does it have big fluffy ears, funny green hair, or a very long nose?
You could even draw your troll before coming into the kitchen.
Sometimes the most wonderful cooking adventures begin with a little imagination.
Troll Snot Dip Activity
To accompany our Troll Snot Dip, why not create a little Troll Kitchen Adventure?
Before you begin cooking, invite your little chef to imagine that they’ve been invited into a troll’s secret kitchen.
Can they find:
- Something green
- Something soft
- Something that smells fresh
- Something they can stir
- Something they think a troll would love
- A name for their troll
You could even make a little troll me
nu together.
What other foods might appear in a troll kitchen?
Wormy spaghetti?
Monster muffins?
Dragon’s sneeze soup?
Fairy dust porridge?
There are no limits when little imaginations are in charge.
For younger children, this can simply be a lovely opportunity to talk, explore, pretend, and have fun together.
Older children might enjoy writing a little menu for their troll restaurant or creating a story about a troll who discovers a secret kitchen in the woods. Click to download your free create your own troll printable!https://mailchi.mp/charliella-rose.com/design-your-own-troll-printable
Cooking with Curiosity
When you return to the kitchen, talk together about the ingredients in your Troll Snot Dip.
Which ingredient has a stone inside?
Which ingredient is soft and creamy?
Which ingredient makes the dip taste fresh and zingy?
What happens when we mash the avocado?
What colours can you see?
What does each ingredient smell like?
You could even invite your little chef to close their eyes for a moment and listen to the sounds of the kitchen.
Can they hear the fork squishing through the avocado?
Can they hear the spoon stirring?
Can they hear the crunch of the vegetables?
Cooking can be a wonderful opportunity for little minds to ask questions, make connections, and discover how food changes as we prepare it.
And sometimes, a bowl of homemade guacamole can become much more than a recipe.
It can become a troll cave.
A magical forest.
A humorous story.
A chance to try something new.
Or simply a lovely moment spent together in the kitchen.
Because food doesn’t always have to be serious.
Sometimes it can be green, gooey, giggly… and completely delicious.
We’d love to see what your little chefs create in their troll kitchens.
What will your troll be called?
Remember, every little adventure begins with a sprinkle of curiosity, a little imagination, and perhaps a tiny bit of troll snot.
Enjoy your dip!
With love,
